Small Knob of Butter
1kg Peeled Potatoes, thinly sliced
400 ml Double Cream
200 ml Milk
Salt and Freshly Ground Pepper
1 Clove Garlic, peeled and crushed
Little Nutmeg
200g Grated Cheese (Swiss,White Cheddar)

DIRECTIONS:
1) Preheat oven to 180C.
2) Rub a deep ovenproof dish all around with the butter and garlic.
3) Arrange a layer of potatoes on the bottom of the dish and sprinkle with cheese. Alternate layers to within 1cm of top of dish.
4) Mix cream and milk together and season with nutmeg, salt and pepper. Pour mixture onto potatoes to just cover them. Cover with tin foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
5) Remove the foil and bake for a further 15-20 minutes. Stick a knife into the centre to check that the potatoes are well cooked. If not, cook for a further 10-15 minutes.
6) Remove from the oven and let the gratin sit for about five minutes before serving. Delicious!
